#DoYouIndie Question: Have you had an experience based on information from a local and how did it work out?
If you really want to know a country, understand its people, culture, get a glimpse of their day to day lives, and get the scoop on the must see and places to hangout, definitely talk to a local.
On a recent trip to Cuba, I rented a room in a typical Cuban home and I believe that my experience would not have been this great if I had not stayed with them and followed their advise on what to visit, where to eat and how to get there!
My first night, I wanted an authentic Cuban meal and stopped at this restaurant that came highly recommended when I was doing my research. After a hefty $30 bill and deplorable service, I felt cheated. I shared this experience with my host and she suggested El Chancuhullero Cuba Bar- Restaurante. I went there the following night: the food was great, absolutely loved the décor, service was impeccable and it was affordable! It became my every night dinner spot and my favorite dish: pork, rice, bread and salad + a Mojito… all for $7!!
